An original BROOD work, this comic couples contemporary instruction manuals with medieval manuscripts. Utilizing shine colle and Japanese paper, this work was textured to look accurate to the world of BROOD.
The comic takes place early on in the story, and is meant to contextualize the struggles that the two newly face, along with their own familiarities with said struggles.
Written from the perspectives of Nicol (above) and Carlo (below) respectively, the comic experiments with characterization by writing the same prompt from two perspectives.
Intaglio, 19.5" x 13", 2025
A comic recreating a scene from Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding. Represents a conversation between characters Sam and Higgs before fighting one another on an ethereal beach.
This work explores text economy within panels. Following a monologue from Higgs, text had to move at a comfortable pace while also not overwhelming the page, allowing for clear legibility.
Screen, 7.5" x 10", 2025
Inspired by Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb's Spider-Man: Blue, this comic follows a tradition he honors in memory of his late partner, Gwen Stacy. Depicts him and his wife, MJ Watson confiding in one another, both having been very close to Gwen.
Dialogue is removed from the work to heighten the somber nature of the moment. Color is used to a similar effect, using a slightly teal blue to allude to a sense of hope in the final panels
Screen, 9" x 12", 2025
A BROOD original that follows a conventional one-page layout. Taking place at a pivotal point within the story, Nicol and Carlo are perceived to have had some growth in their working relationship, interrupted by an ambush.
The comic is used to push the boundaries of panelling and layering, while also experimenting with ink transparency, achieving four unique tones using only three layers.
Relief, 10" x 14", 2025
One-panel comic inspired by the character Thor from Marvel Comics. Depicts Thor striking down at his younger self, who desperately reaches for Mjolnir, his future hammer.
Inspired by Jason Aaron and Al Ewing's respective runs on The Mighty/Immortal Thor, the page explores growth beyond one's past, and rebirth through the rejection of past beliefs.
